Mel was taken to Saint John's Hospital in Santa Monica, California, on Monday before her new daughter was born on Tuesday, People magazine reports.
A spokesperson for the pop star said that the baby is "healthy" and both she and her mother were resting.
"No name has been decided on as yet and she is purely known as Baby Brown," her representative said.
People stated that Eddie Murphy - who Mel claimed is the father of the child - recently told a Dutch TV show that people "shouldn't jump to conclusions" over the paternity of the baby.
Now magazine recently reported that Mel enjoyed a wild baby shower at a hotel in Beverly Hills, where guests drank champagne and were entertained by a male stripper.
Commenting on the event, the stripper, named Mark, told Now that the party was "a little bit strange".
