By Penny Walker on Thursday, 31 Jul 2008 Online bingo fans may be interested to know that mobile phones could open up a whole new market for bingo, an expert has asserted.
Stephen Baldwin, communications manager at The Bingo Association, stated that progression concerning mobile bingo is "exciting" but added that in the UK it is currently "very embryonic".
It is "almost impossible" to tell how successful such a development would be due to the fact that bingo is predominantly a social activity, which is why online bingo with its chat rooms is so popular, he added.
"It's the chat rooms, in many instances, and the chat room personalities and moderators that run them that make good online bingo sites," he continued.
BingoPort reported in March 2008 that the average daily number of online bingo players had increased by 19 per cent in the previous six months, something it attributed to extensive marketing campaigns by gambling companies.
