By Simon Jones on Monday, 22 Dec 2008 The large amount of online bingo adverts that people will see on their televisions throughout the afternoon and evening suggest that the game's marketing gurus are still looking to target new audiences.
At least that is the view of Mark Griffiths, who is the professor of gambling studies at Nottingham University.
In an interview with bulletbusiness.com, the industry expert suggested that online bingo is unlike other sectors within the gambling world in this sense.
"Most of the other forms of gambling have a fairly settled audience and really what you are trying to do with such advertisements is to switch men from one online site to another," he stated.
Mr Griffiths went on to say that internet bingo could well grow in the coming years, partly because it is attractive to a market that is not traditionally associated with gambling - women.
Various online bingo sites such as Foxy Bingo are currently preparing for Christmas by offering a number of festive-themed promotions this month.
