By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 7 Oct 2008 Internet gambling firms, including online casinos, appear to be in a strong position despite the global financial crisis.
That is the view of Robin Le Prevost, head of the E-Commerce Development department for the State of Alderney, who claimed that individual gambling groups are generally "cash rich" and can continue growing in the manner they desire.
Mr Le Prevost also suggested the e-gambling could in fact be recession proof, as the evidence shows that it is relatively unaffected by the current financial situation.
Things are "very encouraging" at present, but the industry should continue to be analysed, he said.
"Obviously the length and depth of this current financial environment could play a part and we will keep watching," the expert continued.
The E-Commerce Development department for the State of Alderney department oversees the development of e-commerce on the Channel Island. It is a government-linked group.
