The story of Chinese orphans Annie and Renee reunited by sheer luck shows that the bond between twins is too strong to be broken. US couple Andrea Ettingoff and husband Craig had been trying for a baby but their relatively advanced ages meant that success was unlikely. "After two years of disappointment we decided to adopt," Andrea told Closer magazine. The couple approached an orphanage in China and they adopted a month-old girl, who they called Annie. However, she began having problems with her behaviour, trying to grab Andrea's food and screaming when she wouldn't give it to her. She posted an email looking for other mothers experiencing the same problem and was contacted by another couple who had also adopted a girl in China, and who gave her advice. Andrea sent a picture of Annie to say thank-you for her help. "I was surprised when she wrote back saying her little girl looked very similar," said Andrea. "We discovered Eileen had adopted her daughter from the same orphanage." The families met up and were surprised by the girls' similarities. "As well as looking so similar, they had the same laugh and the same mannerisms," she continued. The girls hit it off straightaway and eventually had a DNA test after speculation that they were twins. The test confirmed that they were indeed siblings and probably twins. "I can't believe we adopted them from across the world and they found each other," Andrea said.
