Bingo halls around the country are being urged to take action before the smoking ban kicks in at the end of the month.
Smoking in indoor public places will be banned in England from July 1st, with bingo halls among those most likely to be affected by the regulations.
In Scotland the ban came into effect last year, with initial reactions fairly negative. KE Entertainments operations manager Mike Lowe told the Bingo Association: "Within a four week period of the ban being introduced it was apparent that the business would in fact be devastated and extreme measures would need to be taken to lessen the impact."
However, bingo operators in England are being encouraged to make sure they don't suffer the same fate and introduce 'bingo gardens' to help retain customers and keep everybody happy.
Instead of allowing smokers to light up inside and risk heavy fines, the players would be given a hand-held control unit which would allow them to carry on playing bingo outside.
