People encouraged to play bingo online

By Sarah Smithon Thursday, 11 Jan 2007

A video games development company is seeking to encourage more people to play 'traditional' games online, such as bingo.

Ian Livingstone, creative director and former executive chairman of Eidos, the development firm behind the Tomb Raider series and the Championship Manager games, is keen to see the market develop the "demographic" of new games, the Independent reports.

"We now have the Wii and interactive DVD quiz games," he told the newspaper.

"I want grandmothers to play bingo and bridge online. There is a game for everyone out there."

In related news, the Bingo Association recently stated that there are "genuine concerns" over the land bingo industry in 2007, including the national smoking ban which comes into effect in July.

In anticipation of the ban, which may affect bingo players who smoke, a number of firms are increasing their investment in online bingo to retain their customers, BrandRepublic reports.
