By Sarah Smithon Friday, 23 Nov 2007 Pete Doherty is rarely out of the headlines, but this time the lovable rogue has hit the tabloids for playing a gig sober.
The former squeeze of supermodel Kate Moss, kicked off the Babyshambles tour in Manchester last night, telling fans "It's hard doing this sober".
Doherty's gigs have become notorious for their shambolic delivery after the ex-Libertines singer caused a riot at the London Astoria in 2005 when he failed to show up prompting angry fans to invade the stage.
However, after a stint in rehab Doherty claims to have cleaned up his image and the first night of the band's Oh, What A Lovely Tour was praised for being a crowd pleasing show, packed with the group's top hits.
Doherty et al played Killamangiro, Albion and an acappella version of Build Me Up Buttercup for the crowd at the Manchester Evening News Arena.
However, NME.com confirmed the rumours that ticket sales for the tour had been slow, as spare seats around the MEN arena proved the gig had not sold out.
The nation's most famous ex-heroin addict has been in the papers this week after he claimed that he is Amy Winehouse's personal drug counsellor, speaking to the beehived singing star once a day while her hubby Blake is behind bars.
