By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 13 Jun 2007 One bingo enthusiast in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, has scooped a £100,000 jackpot - the third winner of the amount in the town in four years.
Since 2003 three people have won the huge figure in the town in a National Bingo game, with the lucky winner claiming the prize ahead of hundreds of clubs across the UK.
The man, who did not want any publicity, was a family man in his 30s and simply went home to his wife and family, according to the Wisbech Standard.
Bingo hall manager Pam Maddiss told the paper: "He phoned her shortly after the win was confirmed and at first she refused to believe him. He asked me to take the phone and speak to his wife to confirm that he had, indeed, won £100,000."
And Ms Maddiss claims the win goes some way to aiding bingo's cause in the battle against the oncoming smoking ban, which is likely to affect bingo halls up and down the country.
However, experts believe that many bingo fans may instead turn to online bingo and gambling sites, such as bingobase.com, instead, where they can relax with a cigarette in their own home.
