By Penny Walker on Monday, 10 Sep 2007 As if that were not enough, David Weeks also won £200 on the house game and then went on to collect a further £350 in the following bingo games.
He said: "I have never won anything in my life this is the first time ever. I was shocked I didn't realise I had won that much at the time. It didn't sink in straight away."
The 53 year-old postie plans to spend his winnings on saving for his retirement and marrying his girlfriend Sue Beattie, after he has bought her a new car.
David's win means the couple, who moved in together last April, can now afford to walk up the aisle and 'have a nice honeymoon.'
Other bingo players at the Gala were excited at the win.
Vera Whiting, former owner of Vera's Baby World, said that she thought it was wonderful news: "You just keep trying and one day it might come."
