Racism in BB8 leads to early exit

Big Brother Eight contestant Emily Parr has been prematurely evicted from the house for using a racist word.

The 19-year-old, who gave herself ten-out-of-ten for intelligence before entering the house, was removed in the early hours of this morning (June 7th) without getting to say goodbye to her fellow housemates.

Her eviction came after she had been dancing with Charley and Nicky in the living room earlier in the evening when she said: "Are you pushing it out you n****r?"

Emily immediately made it clear to shocked housemates that she had not meant any offence by the use of the word and had meant it as a joke.

Charley and Nicky both expressed their shock at what Emily had said but appeared to be satisfied that she had not meant to use the word in an offensive way.

However, with Big Brother having just endured a racism row over its Celebrity Big Brother show, bosses were keen to be seen to be doing the right thing and Emily was asked to leave the house at 03:30 BST.

"I think people watching the show tonight will agree that Emily spoke carelessly rather than maliciously - certainly Charley and Nicky, the two housemates most directly involved in the conversation with her, seem to accept that she did," said Angela Jain, head of Big Brother commissioning team at Channel 4.

"In the wake of Celebrity Big Brother we must consider the potential offence to viewers regardless of Emily's intentions and her housemates' response."
