By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 20 Jun 2006 Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has accepted £75,000 in damages from London's Evening Standard after the newspaper accused him of faking conditions on his Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares show. The paper claimed that Ramsay and the programme's producers had exaggerated health and safety conditions at a Yorkshire restaurant that featured in the programme in a cynical bid to make things more interesting. Ramsay, an ex-professional footballer and a longstanding fan of swearing, told the BBC: "I won't let people write anything they want to about me. We have never done anything in a cynical, fake way." The offending Evening Standard article was written by Victor Lewis-Smith, who accused Ramsay et al of "gastronomic mendacity" in stage-managing events behind the cameras. But the paper has admitted the piece was false and has issued an apology together with the payout. Gordon Ramsay is one of only three UK chefs to maintain three Michelin stars for his restaurant. His new series, The F Word, begins soon.
