By Sarah Smithon Monday, 24 Dec 2007 A Rochford man will be having himself a very merry Christmas after winning £10,000 on the bingo this weekend.
Tony Johnson won the National Bingos Afternoon Delight Game playing at the Mecca Bingo club on Greyhound Way in Southend.
After bagging a neat £10,000, the 65-year-old also went on to scoop the house prize of £68, bumping up his total winnings.
He told the National Bingo: "My wife is an avid bingo fan so once I retired I decided to go along to support her. I'm glad I did!"
When asked what he would be spending his winnings on Mr Johnson sensibly replied: "We will save most of the money for our retirement."
The fluky fellow and his wife have four children and four grandchildren, with another grandchild on the way in April next year.
He has been a member of the Mecca Bingo club for the last three years and has only been playing there regularly since he retired earlier this year, making his big win all the more remarkable.
