By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 7 Jun 2006 England star striker Wayne Rooney says he's totally confident that he will compete in the upcoming World Cup tournament. As the nation awaits the results of a scan on his metatarsal that is taking place today, England manager Sven Goran Eriksson told BBC Sport: "I'm confident he will take part in the World Cup and he is 300 per cent confident he will play." Man United forward Rooney flew to Manchester from Germany today so that doctors could scan his foot, which he broke during a Premiership game against Chelsea on April 29th. The hope is that he will be given the go-ahead to play in the second round or quarter final matches, assuming England makes it that far. If he is not fit for the tournament, Rooney will be replaced by Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe. England's World Cup campaign begins on Saturday with a group match against Paraguay.
