Manchester United has parted company with the doctor in charge of striker Wayne Rooney's recovery. Speculation is rife that Dr Mike Stone was fired by United boss Sir Alex Ferguson on Monday, but according to a statement released by the club, he left "after a difference of opinion on a non-footballing and non-clinical issue". Star forward Rooney broke his metatarsal during a game against Chelsea on April 29th and Sir Alex Ferguson was concerned that he should not play in Germany if he was not fully fit. A scan at Old Trafford on Thursday will determine whether or not the 20-year-old striker can resume light training with the rest of the England team. Dr Stone had been with Manchester United for ten years and provided England team doctor Leif Sward with updates over Rooney's condition. Dr Sward told The Sun: "Everything points to a perfect recovery. I have the highest hopes for Rooney and the World Cup."
