By Sarah Smithon Friday, 11 Apr 2008 A racy picture of France's first lady Carla Bruni was sold for a £45,000 in New York this week.
Bruni bares all in the photograph, which was taken by Michel Comte in 1993, covering her modesty with her hands.
Sleazy Sarkozy, as the French president is referred to in the British tabloid press, married the former model and musician earlier this year, after he was not permitted to take her on several official visits until she was his wife.
Bruni, who has formerly dated rock stars Eric Clapton and Mick Jagger – when he was married to Jerry Hall, recently accompanied her husband on an official state visit to England, where she met with the Queen and Gordon Brown.
The British prime minister described Ms Bruni as a "very popular visitor to Britain" and she was widely-praised for her ability to bring some glamour to traditionally stuffy state visits.
Christie's in New York, which sold the picture of Ms Bruni, also auctioned pictures of a number of other celebrities last week including Naomi Campbell and actress Brigitte Bardot.
