Shocked 50k winner 'needed a cup of tea'

By Becky Turner on Thursday, 16 Aug 2007

A woman from Wallasey who won £50,000 at her local bingo hall has revealed that she wanted a cup of tea to calm her nerves after finding out she'd won.

Speaking to National Bingo, the 70-year-old woman said she was "totally shocked" to discover just how much she had won at the Gala Club in Bromborough.

Not only did she share the £100,000 National Bingo Game prize with a player in Hampshire, but the lucky lady also won the house prize of £150.

"The staff at the club were lovely and brought us over a bottle of wine to celebrate, but I was so shocked I just wanted to go home for a cup of tea," she laughed.

The grandmother of 11, has been married for 51 years and also has two great-grandchildren

A regular bingo player for the past ten years, she says she would like to use the money to go and visit one of her daughters living in the US.
