By Sarah Smithon Thursday, 11 May 2006 Former checkout girl Michelle Dewberry was chosen by Sir Alan Sugar as the winner of the TV show The Apprentice last night. The 26-year-old beat pushy rival Ruth Badger to land a job with a six-figure salary with the Amstrad boss. "It just shows, you don't have to be cocky," she said after Sir Alan showed he was sweet on her business nous. She added: "For someone like Sir Alan to recognise my ability is unbelievable. It shows you don't need to be loud and cocky and bolshie just work as hard as you can and you'll get on in life." The second series of the BBC's The Apprentice saw 14 candidates fight it out for a job with Sir Alan by performing tasks such as marketing a calendar, but it was Michelle who managed to sell herself best. Hull-born Michelle left school with only two GCSEs but managed to work her way up through various jobs and eventually set up her own freelance consultancy business. Sir Alan praised her hard work, saying: "You have become a great achiever." Now she will run a new computer equipment disposal business for Sir Alan called Xenon Green. The BBC is looking to run a celebrity version of The Apprentice for the 2007 Comic Relief campaign.
