By Sarah Smithon Wednesday, 16 Aug 2006 US magazine Time has chosen YouTube and MySpace as two of the "coolest websites" of the year.
Evaluating sites by way of "countless hours of surfing" and recommendations, Time's coolest sites "are shining examples of Web 2.0: next generation sites offering dynamic new ways to inform and entertain".
The list is broken down into various sections, with popular video site YouTube in the Entertainment, Arts and Media group.
Google Spreadsheets, SingShot and MySpace featured in the Staying Connected section of social networking sites. The latter was described by Time as "the place where web stars are born, music and film careers are launched and some single people manage to find mates".
Meanwhile, the magazine compiled a list of 25 websites that would be impossible to live without. These included online marketplace eBay, retail site Amazon, satirical news website The Onion and collaborative encyclopedia Wikipedia.
