By Sarah Smithon Friday, 16 Jun 2006 Tom Cruise has proved that he still has more clout than anyone else in Hollywood by topping a Forbes poll of the 100 most powerful stars.
The diminutive actor has celebrity "sizzle" in spades, as well as fantastic earning power, the magazine concluded.
The War of the Worlds, his aliens-attack-the-earth blockbuster from last summer, pulled in some £319 million pounds at the box office and his latest smash hit, Mission: Impossible III, is doing impossibly well too.
"Love him or hate him, Cruise is Hollywood's most bankable actor," Forbes declared, despite revealing that more than half of the people polled had an "unfavourable" view of him.
Cruise drew a lot of bad publicity for attacking psychiatry and jumping on couches to declare his love for actress Katie Holmes, with whom he has had a baby.
Tom Cruise is the only celebrity to have topped the Forbes list twice, having done the same in 2001.
The Rolling Stones were in second position, with chat show host Oprah Winfrey rounding out the top three.
