Following the recent chart success of his 1970s hit (Is this the way to) Amarillo?, Tony Christie is to return to his roots by performing at a bingo hall in Leeds.
The singer, who hails from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, is to be the guest of honour at the Leeds Mayfair Club on Friday November 24th, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports.
Tony told the newspaper that before his career took-off, he considered being the manager of bingo hall in Sheffield, but chose his present line of work when his 1971 album, Las Vegas, became a worldwide hit.
"Back in the 60s when I was doing the club circuit, the bingo was actually more important than the cabaret. I plan to play a game or two when I visit Leeds," the singer says.
In support of his new release, Simply In Love, Tony recently performed a special show at the Royal Oak pub in Maidenhead, which is owned by fellow Yorkshireman Michael Parkinson.
