By Sarah Smithon Monday, 1 Oct 2007 Seven British tourists have been arrested by the Turkish police for playing bingo.
The holidaymakers were amongst 30 people playing bingo at the Sunshine Bar in Altinkum when police invaded, arrested players and fined them 117 YTL (£42) each.
Sarah Holland, 25, from Rhyl in north Wales was on holiday with her friend at the time. She said: "It was completely and utterly stupid. We were all having a fun time and then the police turned up and forced us to fill out forms."
She added that initially she thought she was on Candid Camera until she was "hustled" into a police van and taken to the station.
In Turkey all forms of gambling are illegal.
In the UK the National Bingo estimates that around three million people play the game per year and ten per cent of all women play, both online and in their local bingo halls.
Recently glamour model Jordan, who is now the face of Foxy Bingo, admitted to being a huge fan of the game.
The wife of ex-pop sensation Peter Andre said "I love playing the game online
I think everyone should give it a try".
