TV presenter Chris Tarrant is to separate from his wife Ingrid, it emerged last night.
In a statement, the Who Wants To Be a Millionaire host confirmed that the couple were to split after fifteen years of marriage.
"I am deeply sorry for the hurt I have caused to my loyal wife and wonderful children, all of whom I adore," he said.
"I have only myself to blame for the breakdown of my marriage. While the liaison which has led to all of this was not significant in my life, I will always regret the hurt and pain I have caused to those whom I love."
Tarrant has appealed to the UK media for privacy in the wake of the split, after reports that he was having an affair appeared in many newspapers.
Ironically, the presenter and his wife had been starring in a series of commercials in which they joke about him forgetting their wedding anniversary and having to sleep on the sofa.
