By Becky Turner on Tuesday, 18 Jul 2006 There must be something fortuitous about the Gala bingo club in Gateshead because two people struck it lucky there in the space of four days, taking home over £300,000 between them.
Liz Giles from County Durham and a mother-of-two who has not been named both won jackpots in the National Bingo Game.
Ms Giles won a total of £101,385 and couldn't contain her excitement. "I made an exhibition of myself – I was so excited I was shouting and dancing and waving my ticket in the air," she said. "I plan to spend, not save it – and so do my sisters and cousin."
Meanwhile the 39-year-old mother-of-two couldn't believe it when she won more than £200,000. "It was all a bit surreal, like an out of body experience," she said.
She had gone to the bingo club while her family stayed at home and watched the World Cup final and had placed a bet on France to win.
She explained: "When I got home the children were saying, 'France lost, you have got to pay up'. I told them I have got the money to pay you now!"
