By Becky Turner on Thursday, 1 Jun 2006 A 75-year-old widow from Merthyr struck it lucky when playing bingo, taking home more than £20,000.
The woman, who has been playing her favourite bingo game for four decades, was playing the Afternoon Game at the Castle Club in Merthyr's Plymouth Street when she won £20,633 – and told the manager that her years of service had finally paid off, the National Bingo Game Association reports.
"I'm really happy now," she said. "But win or lose, I just love the game so I won't stop playing."
She worked as a school dinner lady for 23 years and has lived in the same house for more than half a century. Unfortunately her husband died some years ago, but she has two younger sisters who also live in Merthyr.
"The prize money will be split into equal shares between us," she said, adding that she is going to make improvements to her home and possibly go on a cruise.
