Woman wins on the bingo at Livingston Carlton

By Sarah Smithon Tuesday, 4 Mar 2008

A woman who has won big on the bingo in Livingston Carlton is planning a holiday of a lifetime to Australia.

The lucky 45-five-year-old West Lothian winner scooped more than £77,000 after playing the National Game at Carlton Bridge Bingo Club in Almondvale.

She says that she is still in shock and has barely slept since she found out about her win.

"It was unbelievable to find out how much I had won," said the woman, who wishes to remain anonymous.

"Things like this don't happen to people like me. After the win was announced people in the club were rubbing me for luck. One person rubbed my back and then went on to win the next house prize."

She is the second person in 13 days to win the National Game in Carlton, after 33-year-old student nurse Cindy Geary won £11,000 last month.

According to the National Bingo, eight per cent of the population play the game, and ten per cent of women play.

Most common reasons for playing are because it is fun, inexpensive and offers players the chance to socialise.
