Having parted company with one of its judges, the X Factor show is now reportedly struggling to find a presenter to replace Kate Thornton.
Simon Cowell was said to have approached Channel 4's Big Brother's Little Brother host Dermot O'Leary to take over, in a job expected to be worth £250,000, the Mirror reports.
However, Cowell's advances were in vain as a source told the newspaper that O'Leary turned down the chance.
"Dermot was flattered but the filming would clash with his upcoming commitments for Big Brother," they said.
Having been kicked off the show, former judge Louis Walsh has chosen to join the BBC's Any Dream Will Do programme.
The show will see contestants audition for a role in Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
A source close to the project told the Mirror that Walsh was "delighted" to have made the switch.
