Bingo hall reports fundraising success

A bingo hall in Merseyside has reportedly raised 2,543 for the children's charity Whizz-Kidz.

The Mecca Bingo establishment in Southport had targeted a sum of 2,000, but it has exceeded expectations by running a number of money-making initiatives.

Money has been raised for the organisation, which helps provide specialised wheelchairs for disabled youngsters, by Mecca Bingo halls across the UK.

Ruth Owen, chief executive of Whizz-Kidz, highlighted why it is important her charity receives such support.

"We are absolutely thrilled with the enthusiasm and inventiveness of the Mecca team and club members in raising over a quarter of a million pounds nationally to support young wheelchair-users' independence," she stated.

Last week, the Shields Gazette reported that Mecca Bingo in South Shields had also raised more money for the charity than it originally set out to do.

And with a month left until the end of 2008, there is still an opportunity for both clubs to boost Whizz-Kidz's coffers even more.
