Many people would spend any money they won at online bingo on themselves - perhaps purchasing a car or a holiday with their earnings.
But one South Shields man has opted to put the 10,000 jackpot he won at internet bingo towards his son's education.
Terence Perry secured the five-figure sum recently and told the Shields Gazette that the cash is going towards his son Christopher's London School of Musical Theatre fees.
In an interview with the newspaper, Mr Perry said: "I can't believe that I never have to worry again about keeping my son in drama school, and see him reach his dream that I never did."
His success came at Wink Bingo, a site that is currently offering its members the chance to "race into 2009 in style".
Those who play at the site can win a new Mini, which may be a welcome gift for someone this Christmas.
