Bingo to the rescue

Bingo games in Northamptonshire have played their part in making older people in the country happier this Christmas.

The Old White Hart pub in Flore ran numbers game sessions recently to raise money for the Flore Mods 2 charity, which donates food hampers to the elderly at Christmas.

If the pub had not stepped in, the older folk in the village may not have received any of the festive gifts this year, reports the Daventry Express.

Landlord Derek Emery and his wife Irene were responsible for running the bingo games after the charity indicated that it may not be able to dish out the gifts this Christmas.

Jacquie Springthorpe, secretary of the charity, told the publication that the credit crunch has really hit the organisation in recent months.

"We did not think we were going to be able to do anything but fortunately Derek and Irene Emery, landlords of the Old White Hart, helped us out," she remarked.

Bingo has played a part in Christmas parties up and down the country in the last few weeks, with many schools in the UK hosting festive gatherings that include the numbers game.
